T2

T2, (Oil on Canvas 24" X 30")

This painting took me about a week to do and has given me a life time worth of lessons in return. Understanding all aspects of the human face can take years and most people never accomplish this task. I am just starting to understand the tricks on how to make subtle facial expressions come together. How the lights are never really that light and the darks don’t have to be that dark. It is interesting playing around with this and I expect to continue to get better.

Ready for Training Day

I am falling back into painting people again. When I was younger all I did was draw and paint people. This is a quick study of Greg, who is a retired correctional officer in NYC and is now security for hire. I am also going to do a few small paintings because I am finding that a lot of galleries are looking for great small pieces. Stay tuned!

The Magic Hour

SOLD  The Magic Hour, (Oil on Canvas 24"X 48")

The Magic Hour is the first or last hour of sunlight during the day. This is depicting the sun going down in NY. The light affect you see in this painting is actually how it looks and not from an outside light source like a lamp or camera flash. The unique thing about this painting that you can’t see from the photo is that the lights on the buildings are done in metallic oil paint giving it a shine when hit by the light.
I completed this and delivered it to the client in NY last week. She loved it so much that she now wants two more paintings. I want to work on a collection for a gallery that I am getting into but I have so many commissions lined up. There is not enough time in the day to do both, and I don’t know what to work on first.

The Cap

Philly Cap Study, (Oil and Acrylic on Canvas)

This was done one day because I was experimenting on how oils and acrylics work together. I use acrylics to prime my canvas sometimes but this time it was used as part of the painting. It came out ok but I would like it better with just oils. Anyway I hope this brings the home team a little luck they are not doing so good right now.

My Studio

This is a quick look at my studio and some of the work I need to complete. I don’t understand how I can start some paintings and never get back to them and others I can’t stop working on. I have to finish the Picasso painting I stole (“The Harlequin 1915”). It is my favorite painting Picasso ever did because of its simplicity and balance and I just want it up on the wall in my house.

This is a study for a larger painting I am doing. I was experimenting with some metallic oil paint and I think it gave the painting a cool effect when hit by the light. I don’t think I am going to use it, but it was cool...

GWB and the Moon

SOLD   GWB and the Moon (Oil on Canvas)

This was the painting that sparked my whole NY series. Not a good picture and if I still had the painting I would have taken a better one. The power of the color of this painting just pulls the viewer in. I know you will never see this image in nature but when you walk in a room you can’t help but to notice this painting.
